Nokia N8 starts shipping Sep 30, E7 to be announced next week?

The long wait isn’t over yet - new info says the Nokia N8 will start shipping in late September, at least for those who pre-ordered. In the mean time, the Nokia E7 popped up, reportedly going official as soon as next week.

The Nokia N8 has been on a handful of sites for pre-order, each site citing a different launch date. Some of those dates flew through with no N8 in sight, other dates are always a couple of weeks ahead.

The end just might be in sight though - a Finnish site spoke to Nokia’s Senior Communications Manager who said that Nokia N8 pre-orders will shipping September 30. He also said that the N8 will cost 499 euros - since we’ve seen different prices for different countries, that shipping date might be for Finland only.

Still, the Nokia World event is fast approaching (it’s on September 14 and 15) - there Nokia is expected to unveil the Nokia E7. The E7 is a Symbian^3 phone with a slide out QWERTY and got leaked a few times, with speculation that it’s the Nokia N9.

Well, it’s not the N9, but the specs still seem quite impressive - a 4″ touchscreen (probably nHD), 3G, Wi-Fi, 8MP camera with dual LED flash and an HDMI port. If these specs pan out, the Nokia E7 should sit somewhere between the Nokia C7 (which has a smaller screen and no QWERTY) and the Nokia N9 (which touts an aluminum body and MeeGo). The Nokia E7 specs are unconfirmed, but that should change next week.

O2 and Vodafone to sell the iPhone 4 in Germany

T-Mobile is losing its exclusivity for iPhone in Germany. As a result two more operators, O2 and Vodafone, will start selling Apple’s phone as soon as the negotiations are finalized.

While all carriers are selling older iPhones models, the latest iPhone 4 is exclusive to T-Mobile DE. Currently, its price starts from 1 euro when purchased together with a 2-year contract.

T-Mobile Germany has already sold good 1.9 million iPhones across the country despite the delayed iPhone 4 shipments (some customers had to wait 9 weeks for the coveted device).

The latest rumor is T-Mobile is about to lose its exclusivity for Apple’s toy in Germany in October, which will allow the other two companies to get in on the action. There is no word from either of the companies yet but according to the WSJ the negotiations are in an advanced stage.

It’s not like we haven’t seen this scenario: last year the same thing happened to O2 UK who lost its iPhone exclusivity in the UK weeks just before the holiday season and Vodafone and Orange were allowed to join the game.

Nokia C7 previewed before official announcement, will cost 350 euro

Nokia are obviously not doing a great job preventing those leaks as another of their handsets has been previewed well-ahead of its official announcement. This time it’s the Nokia C7 and even though the preview doesn’t give us all the details it gets clear that the C7 is a slightly trimmed-down Nokia N8, coming at a lower price.

Nokia C7 gets previewed

Despite his history of legal issues with Nokia, Eldar Murtazin from mobile-review.com posted a preview of the Nokia C7. The handset obviously takes the N8 base, but uses a cheaper body (plastic rather than anodized aluminum) and cuts down a few features . The major cut is the camera - 8MP and LED flash vs. the 12MP camera with xenon flash on the N8.

HDMI is also gone and the internal memory has been halved to 8GB. The rest of it is the same - 3.5″ nHD AMOLED, 680MHz CPU, 256MB RAM, 1200mAh Li-Ion battery and of course Symbian^3. The Nokia C7 also supports the latest local wireless connectivity - Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 (which hit 10Mbit/s during testing).

The camera has been downsized to 8MP

Eldar Murtazin estimates that the Nokia C7 will be available in mid-October or November for 350 euro (based on the announced 370 euro price of the N8 with actual prices of around 450 euro for pre-order).
