T-Mobile G2 breaks cover, not nearly exciting as expected

You’ve probably heard that T-Mobile USA are running a teaser site for their mysterious upcoming Android smartphone - the G2. These are the first shots of the device and we gotta say that for something that was supposed to continue the revolution started by its predecessor, it does look quite dull.

Anyways, it could be the blurry pictures alright, so let’s not pass anymore judgment before we see some better shots.

Update: Some more pictures of the T-Mobile G2 are available. Note that the screen doesn’t tilt, what you see in the picture is a broken sliding mechanism.

Obviously the smartphone is simply the US version of the rumored HTC Vision, as was rumored before. We’ll keep our eyes and ears open for new details.

HTC Vision could be renamed to G1 Blaze, go to T-Mobile

It’s been a few weeks since we last heard of the QWERTY-packing HTC Vision Android phone, but new rumors have surfaced. The latest gossip says the Vision is heading for T-Mobile and a potential market name.

We first encountered the HTC Vision back in May when it became clear that it will have a 480×800 pixels screen, which we later found out to be 3.7″ big. The other details that came up earlier this month name-dropped Android 2.1 Eclair running on a 1GHz CPU.

Now the new rumors peg the HTC Vision as a T-Mobile device, though they don’t specify which T-Mobile (T-Mobile USA? A European T-Mobile?). A clue is provided by a bit of old gossip - that the HTC Vision will hit the UK in October.

Anyway, the HTC Vision could (rumor has it) change its name to G1 Blaze - an allusion to the first Android phone to hit the market, the T-Mobile G1. For some reason HTC hasn’t produced many phones with Android and QWERTY since the G1.

As with anything you hear from rumor-land, this batch of rumors should be taken with a pinch of salt, there’s nothing official from HTC yet.

Android 2.2 Froyo already ported to Nexus One, HTC Droid Eris

Author: admin  //  Category: Android

So, Android’s latest and greatest update is coming soon, but some people just can’t wait - there are already ports of v2.2 Froyo for the Nexus One and the HTC Droid Eris. It’s not usable yet, but who’s willing to bet that Froyo ROMs will be available for certain phones before they get an official firmware update? We know we do!

Someone over at the Italian website Androidiani.com has managed to get 2.2 Froyo up and running on a Nexus One - and you can download the files you need to put it on your Nexus too. However, it’s very unstable and you can’t use it for more that 10 minutes without it crashing. It’s no wonder given how quickly they ported it.

The XDA-Developers forums are buzzing with talks about Android 2.2 Froyo and getting it to work on other phones too. One dev there has got Froyo running on an HTC Droid Eris, but they say it’s barely functional, so they haven’t released it for public download yet.

If you want to try Android 2.2 Froyo, for now the better option is to download the SDK - even if you’re not a developer, you can still play around with the emulator to get a feel of how some frozen yoghurt treat will taste on your Android phone.

Even if those devs can’t release a workable version of Android 2.2 Froyo before the official update for the Nexus One hits, owners of other phones might have to wait quite a while before they get it - some (like HTC Hero owners) are still stuck waiting for 2.1 Eclair.

The impatient among you can follow the source links to check on how the two ports are progressing. If you missed it somehow, here’s a changelog for all the new goodies in version 2.2 Froyo.

HTC Legend appears on KPN website, teases before the MWC

Author: admin  //  Category: HTC

Now that’s just mean - Dutch operator KPN posted the HTC Legend on their site teasing us days before the MWC when it will be officially announced. It’s gone now, but it was on the site just long enough to confirm its existence along with some of its specs and a release date.

KPN posted a page that allowed users to sign up for updates on the phone, so it wasn’t even a preorder and the price of the HTC Legend wasn’t listed. Some of the specs from the leaked roadmap were confirmed - the 5-megapixel camera, the GPS receiver with A-GPS and the 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor.

The name “Legend” seems quite appropriate for the successor of the HTC Hero and the fact that the phone was listed as “HTC Legend” on the KPN site suggests that it might just stick.

The target availability of the HTC Legend according to the KPN site is March. After the two leaked shots earlier, now we have these official looking photos but still not many officially confirmed specs. Well, we’ll have to wait for a few more days to find out, we guess.
